Thousands of bills are introduced by lawmakers every legislative session; a few hundred become law. In addition to my work supporting efforts in health care reform, education funding, and environmental safeguards, I was the chief sponsor of the following pieces of legislation introduced during the 2007 Session. House Bill (HB) 2704 requires that the Department of Motor Vehicles include fuel efficient driving techniques in the driver’s manual and include one question about fuel efficient driving techniques on each driver’s test.

HB 2705 changes residency requirements for Oregon college students in order to ensure that all students who have attended Oregon public schools for the 3 years prior to graduation are eligible for in-state tuition.

HB 2706, filed at the request of a constituent, allows parents who are dependent upon their adult children for financial support to receive worker’s compensation benefits in the case of their child’s death in the workplace.

HB 2927, filed at the request of a constituent, calls for the formation of a task force to ensure that our anatomical donation facilities are doing their jobs with professionalism and integrity.

HB 3472 alters the state legislator per diem by linking the amount each legislator receives during session to the mileage between the representative’s district and the capitol.

HB 3473, filed at the request of a school district fiscal officer, allows school districts to join with other school districts to obtain cheaper energy rates.

House Joint Resolution 54 refers a constitutional amendment to voters that will establish a floor for school spending.

House Resolution 3 urges our high schools, community colleges, and universities to offer more classes in Mandarin Chinese and more opportunities to study abroad in China.
